Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient system of complementary medicine that involves stimulation of various points on the body with thin, stainless steel disposable needles to harmonize the body for optimum health, improved vitality, the alleviation of pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Simply put, acupuncture is based on the belief that any illness, pain or disease is caused by blockages in the body’s energy flow, which is known as qi (pronounced “chee”). This blockage occurs in pathways, called meridians. By inserting small needles into the skin at various points along these meridians, the blockages are removed and the flow of qi is restored and homeostasis achieved. Originating in China thousands of years ago, acupuncture is now widely practiced in the West. Modern technological studies have proven the effects acupuncture produces. Neuroimaging studies have revealed that acupuncture relaxes areas of the brain associated with pain and activates the areas associated with rest and relaxation. Many of the acupuncture “points” used correspond to nerve bundles, muscle trigger points, with several of the meridians along which practitioners believe qi runs, correlating to major arteries and nerves.
Massage Therapy
Deep-Tissue Massage
Pre-natal and Induction Massage
Swedish/Relaxation Massage
Massage Therapy is the manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissue (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments). Stress and emotional upset are a normal part of life and having an effective way to deal with it is essential for keeping our immunity, mental and physical body healthy. Massage therapy can:
Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system.
Increase flexibility.
Lessen depression and anxiety.
Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
And if that isn’t enough, it just feels good!!
Moxibustion
Moxibustion (moxa) is a form of heat therapy that uses the herb Artemesia Vulgaris (mugwort) to treat the body. Heat is created by burning moxa (made from mugwort) near or on specific acupuncture points or regions of the body. The patient will experience a pleasant heating sensation that penetrates deep into the skin. Moxibustion excels at strengthening the body, increasing blood flow and reducing painful conditions.
Cupping
Cupping is a type of therapy that uses small glass cups which are suctioned onto the skin. This therapy is used to eliminate toxins, invigorate qi, and relax the muscles. It is most often used for muscular pain and tightness and if necessary may be use during an acupuncture session. Depending on the condition being treated, the cups will be left in place from 5 to 10 minutes.
